Žiegždrių geologinis takas skirtas visiems besidomintiems geologija ar norintiems išmokti skaityti mūsų krašto gelmių istoriją, užrašytą jos plutos sluoksniuose. Keliaujančius šiuo taku lankytojus lydės nepakartojamas Kauno marių kraštovaizdis, į amfiteatrus panašios daubos bei grėsmingai žiojėjančios olos.
Keliaudami šiuo taku iš arčiau apžiūrėsite varvinių molių nuošliaužą, Žiegždrių atodangą, aštuonkamienę bei pačią storiausią kairiajame Kauno marių krante liepas, nuošliaužos performuotą šlaitą, šaltinį, sufozinius cirkus bei Kalniškių konglomeratų atodangą.
Žiegždrių atodanga – tai reta vieta Lietuvoje, kur galima pamatyti ledynmečio pabaigoje buvusiose prieledyninėse mariose susiklosčiusių juostuotų nuosėdų storymės visą pjūvį. Nuosėdų dalį čia sudaro labai būdingas juostuotas molis (varvos). Žiegždrių atodangoje išskirtos trys juostuotų nuosėdų dalys (serijos), bendras jų storis siekia 8,4 metrus. Jos apima 232 metinius sluoksnelius, kurių kiekvienas sudarytas iš 2 sluoksnyčių: žiemos ir vasaros. Tokia metinė sluoksnyčių pora yra vadinama varva. Čia, pačiame Žiegždrių atodangos pakraštyje, šalia pratekančio upelio, galima apžiūrėti ir paliesti varvinių molių nuošliaužą, suskaičiuoti jos amžių.
Žiegždrių atodanga yra Kauno rajono Samylų apylinkėje. Jos aukštis siekia 22m. Atodangos viršaus aukštis virš dabartinio jūros lygio yra apie 64-66 m. Šlaitų statumas siekia 500, bet yra vietų, kur jie beveik vertikalūs. Žiegždrių atodangos ilgis siekia per 550m. Žiegždrių atodanga – tai geologinė vertybė, turinti didelę mokslinę ir pažintinę reikšmę, liudijanti sudėtingą Nemuno slėnio (dabar marių) šlaitų sandarą ir labai įdomią gamtos raidą poledynmetyje.

Žiegždriai Exposure - Lithuania is a rare place where you can see the end of the ice age in the former lagoon the glacier forced striped sediment column full cut. The sediment here consists of a characteristic striped clay. Žiegždriai striped rock exposure from three sediment components (series), the total thickness of 8.4 meters.
