Geocache Description:

Life moves pretty fast and Ferris Bueller's Day Off is nearly 30 years old! The 1986 film tells the story of high school senior Ferris Bueller and his quest to have one last hurrah before graduation. Ferris convinces his girlfriend, Sloane, as well as his reluctant best friend, Cameron, to skip school for the day and drive to downtown Chicago, Illinois. The movie serves as a travelogue as well as love letter to the Windy City. Directed by native John Hughes, Ferris Bueller's Day Off spotlights many of Chicago's greatest landmarks but it also made landmarks out of some of the city's lesser known locations.

The first stage of this two-stage multi will bring you across the street from 22 W. Schiller Street (also known as the Luther McConnell house). It is the site of the exterior of the fictitious Chez Quis restaurant. The location is actually a private residence that was redressed to create the imaginary eatery. The interiors were filmed in the now-defunct L’Orangerie restaurant in West Hollywood, CA., which is now a restaurant named Nobu.

In the film, Ferris cons his way into the restaurant by spying a reservation for three in the restaurant's reservation book and pretending to be the patron of the reservation, Abe Froman — The Sausage King of Chicago! Via a telephone ploy, Ferris convinces the snooty (snotty) maître d' of the Chez Quis that he is, in fact, tube-steak royalty!

To Find the Cache

From your vantage point, outside and across the street from 22 W. Schiller, you should be standing on the sidewalk next to a green City of Chicago street light box. Just slightly east of the utility box (and still on the sidewalk), you will see a manhole cover. The manhole cover has engraved writing. You will use this writing and some simple math to get the coordinates to the second and final stage.

Using the simple letter of the alphabet to number substitution (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc.), add the numeric values of the fifth, seventh, second, and eighth letters together. Add the result to the minutes of the north posted coordinates.

To get the west coordinates, add the number value of the first letter and the fifth letter together and then multiply the result by sixteen. Add two to that result. Take that result and add it to the west minutes.

That's it. You now have the coordinates to the final and it's just a short walk away! Like I said, life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it!

Selfie Alert: Although this is not a requirement for claiming the cache, please feel free to take a photo of yourself in front of 22 W. Schiller Street (just as Ferris would... but keeping in mind that it is a private residence... just as Ferris wouldn't) and post them here!
