Cette tour construite au 12eme siecle protegeait la porte du meme nom (qui signifie probablement champ beni en raison de la proximite d'un cimetiere gallo-romain).

elle faisait partie des fortifications qui prtegeait Salins et qui comptaient environ 25 tours.
