Geocaching may sometimes include reaching into dark crevices or bushwacking to arrive at GZ. This puts geocachers in close proximity with spiders and their family members. Use the short description below to solve the puzzle and be on your way claim your smiley. While you could drive from point to point, a walking stick may come in handy while looking for this cache.

Arachnids are a class of invertebrate animals in the phylum Arthropoda subphylum Chelicerata. Almost all adult arachnids have eight legs which differentiate them from insects with six legs. Arachnids also have additional appendages that have adapted for other functions. The pedipalps are a set of appendages used for feeding or locomotion.

The arachnid body is typically divided into the cephalothorax and the abdomen. Typically, the spinnerets are on the abdomen. These can extrude a thin, strong protein strand called silk. It can be used to form webs, wrap prey, build walls, and aid in moving.

Two ancient forms of arachnids include the Opiliones and the Trigonotarbida. The spider, commonly referred to as “Daddy longlegs,” is a childhood favorite. They belong to the arachnid order Opiliones. The Trigonotarbida are extinct and lacked a silk gland.
