Geocache Description:

City Lake Natural Area
This 35 acre City Lake Natural Area is located on Bridgeway Drive and is preserved in its natural state, with some improvements to help accessibility.  This public park is a favorite area with fishermen as they can catch catfish, bass and bream.  The natural area also includes City Lake Falls, a multifaceted waterfall best viewed after wet weather.

The falls are located at the end of an easy hike along a paved and gravel trail, approximately 1/3 of a mile.
There is an observation deck at the falls for your viewing pleasure.  Might be a few mosquitos in the area to keep you company.

City Lake Falls is included in the Putnam County Landforms database. It is one of many waterfalls on the Cumberland Plateau formed by the transitioning elevations of land from mountains in the east to the Central Basin near Nashville.  City Lake Falls is small in height, but contains multiple locations of flowing water down rock faces to create a beautiful, picturesque scene. The streams converge into one waterway which feeds City Lake.

These falls have multiple types of vegetation growing in and around the water.  Many plants thrive in the moist soil and partial shade alongside waterfalls. These include Blue-eyed grass, which grows small blue flowers, and Golden sweet flag. Many flowering plants are also well-suited for rock waterfalls. The Pink bog primrose grows well in rich, moist soil. Moss will also develop naturally in moist environments, such as the rocks in waterfalls.  Ferns, like moss, grow from spores and don't have roots, so they can grow between rocks in the waterfall.

In order to log this cache you will need to answer the following questions and send the answers to dirtdobbers.

Look out from the observation deck, to the left, forward and to the right. How many separate waterfalls do you see at this site?
What type of vegetation is growing on the waterfall nearest the observation deck?
Optional - when you log this cache post a photo of you at the earthcache site.
