Number 3 in our "Erratic Behaviour" series. This is the smallest of the boulders, but closest to the road.
Another glacial erratic here. Look directly East to see it. Glacial erratics, because they have been left on the grasslands of Alberta thousands of years ago by retreating glaciers, are usually located in bowl-shaped depressions, like this one. They have slowly compressed the ground underneath. Erratics also usually have a distinct look and colour and those of the Foothills Erratics Train (like this one) are composed of quartzite from the mountains near Jasper, Alberta.
