Ode Series
Dragonflies and damselflies make up an order of insects called Odonata. This group of insects, collectively called odes, developed from ancestors originating at least 300 million years ago. The body design of modern day odes has changed relatively little in comparison with the fossils of their early ancestors. This series will take you to various locations within the Carden Dragonfly Count circle where some interesting odes have been located.
Hallowe'en Pennant
I bought my first dragonfly guide in the second year of doing the dragonfly count here in Carden. As we wandered around the countryside, I sat in the back seat and examined my new book. From the first time I saw a picture of a hallowe'en pennant, I wanted to see one. It was a year later when we arrived here and discovered that this was the place to see them. The summer of 2013 seemed to be the year of the pennant as they were seen in new locations all over Carden.
Please note that this property is owned by the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) and permission has been obtained to place this cache. Do not ruin it for the rest of us - you are very welcome to walk on this property and you may even see a place or two for a cache. Do not place any cache without first obtaining permission from NCC. If you do so, all caches will be removed and no future caches will be allowed
