Flood Valley - Wetland Series Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

teawren: The presence of hornets is a chronic problem with this cache to I've decided to archive it
Happily I was able to find the container, after being startled by a beaver slapping its tail, so will be trying to find a less waspy location so I can use it again

Geocache Description:

Wetland Series

Many different habitats can be considered to be wetlands. These include ponds, marshes, swamps and bogs. Thanks to the variety of plants and animals present in wetlands, these can be highly productive environments.

Wetlands fill an important role in our environment as filters of pollution, homes for waterfowl and flood and erosion controls. Unfortunately many people consider wetlands to be wastelands and many are filled in or drained. This series will take you to a variety of wetlands around the Carden area.

Flood Valley

This road floods every spring regardless of how much or how little snow we get over the winter. I love driving down the hill and bravely driving through the water so I manage to come by here at least once every spring. This wetland is nice for dragonflies, damselflies and wetland birds. The water seems even higher than normal this year and when I was placing this cache, the City of Kawartha Lakes road crew stopped nearby to open up the culverts which had been blocked up by the local beavers.

This cache has had to be moved a couple of times because of the hornet factor. It is now no longer inside the metal ring but is on the ground. Do not search inside the metal ring, especially in late summer, early fall as this is a very popular spot for hornets. Again, I say, this cache is now on the ground. The coordinates will still be right as the cache has not been moved far enough to affect them
