Mud Flats - Wetland Series Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

teawren: It's time to archive all my caches. Hopefully someone else will hide a cache or two in this area to replace them.
It's been fun but I'm just too busy to maintain these caches

Geocache Description:

Wetland Series

Many different habitats can be considered to be wetlands. These include ponds, marshes, swamps and bogs. Thanks to the variety of plants and animals present in wetlands, these can be highly productive environments.

Wetlands fill an important role in our environment as filters of pollution, homes for waterfowl and flood and erosion controls. Unfortunately many people consider wetlands to be wastelands and many are filled in or drained. This series will take you to a variety of wetlands around the Carden area.

Mud Flats

I'd driven by this wetland on a regular basis without thinking too much about it or what could be hanging out on these mud flats. Then one year during the Carden Challenge, while out with my team trying to get the most number of bird species found in a 24 hour period, the husband of one of my teammates called to let us know that there were good birds to be picked up at this pond. Off we went only to discover that the swans (rare back then) had taken off just minutes before our arrival. We still managed to pick up black tern and spotted sandpiper so it was worth the drive up.

Note that Monck Rd. can be a very busy road. The drivers tend to drive at high speeds and won't slow down or pull over when they see foot traffic at the side of the road. Please be careful when stopping for this cache.
