Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden along Autauga Creek and you must use a kayak, canoe or other floating device to reach it.  If you access this cache by land you are trespassing.  Please do not cross private property.  Use only public access points to creek.

This one might be a little tricky.

Autauga Creek is part of the Alabama Scenic River Trail, which is a designated National Water Trail. And is considered a Class 1.1-1.4  stream.  Even though this creek doesn’t offer the rapids like the Coosa River you will find this a charming paddle through hairpin turns and twists.   This creek is ideal for canoes, kayaks and even tubes depending upon your preference.

For more information about Autauga Creek Canoe Trail can be found at www.autaugacreek.org for maps, etc.  But I have done my best to sum up the information on this page.

Water Level readings for Autauga Creek now available online at: USGS.gov

Autauga Creek Canoe Trail is currently a total of 13 miles long. The upper section extends 7 miles from CR 10 to the Prattville dam.  An independent outfitter is located five miles upstream of the dam with launch access. Recommended take out for upper section is at Allenville Road.

The most popular section is 4 miles long, and starts at the Creekwalk behind City Hall.
Take out is at Canoe Trail Park

Cars can be parked at Canoe Trail Park (Mile Marker #2) for takeout.  There is no road access after this point.

You may approach swimmers or other paddlers in the creek.  Be considerate of others.  Be prepared to stop!

Restrooms are available at Pratt Park and at Canoe Trail Park takeout.

Leave it better than you found it!! Please dispose of any litter you find along the trail in a responsible manner.  Trash cans are available at Canoe Trail Park.  (MM #2)

The last two miles of Autauga Creek go from Canoe Trail Park to the Alabama River.

There is no road access downstream of Canoe Trail Park.

If you float past Mile Post #2 towards the river, be prepared to paddle back upstream.

You may see a few snakes including venomous cottonmouths, but most are harmless water snakes.  Leave them alone and they will leave you alone.

Please respect private property along the creek, and avoid trespassing.  The canoe trail boundary is the normal high water line at each creek bank.
