Geocache Description:

In the Deep Dark Hills of Eastern Kentucky... That's the place where I trace my blood line... And it's there I read on a hillside gravestone... "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive..."

Welcome to Harlan County, formed in 1819, named after pioneer Silas Harlan. Known for the abundance of coal in it's mountains, Harlan County has seen it's fair share of ups and downs in this business. Poor working conditions and unfair labor laws led to violent confrontations in the 1930s. This led to Harlan County being known as "Bloody Harlan." Nowadays Harlan County is known for it's ATV trails, ziplining, and black bears. The coal industry has since taken a downfall with the new laws regulating coal. This Cache is to honor the men and women who have worked so hard in the mining industry to provide for the people of our great nation.

Be prepared to get your hands a little dirty in a similar manner as the hard working folks of Harlan County have done for generations. Don't worry, you don't have to go underground to find this Cache!

The Cache is in a medium size tupperware container. It includes a large log book, pen, trade items and/or trackables.
