Huntington Ingalls - Newport News Shipbuilding and the City of Newport News have collaborated on a downtown walking trail to give employees and the public a chance to get outdoors and get exercise. The trail takes the walker through downtown Newport News to the Victory Arch and around the Virginia Advanced Shipbuilding and Carrier Integration Center (VASCIC). As I walked past these signposts, I felt this area was screaming for caches in this sparsely cache populated area. Due to geocache personal space envelope restrictions, I was not able to place a container at every 0.1 mile post, but I did what I could.
Based on the personal observations on parking availability and muggle density in this downtown area, I recommend that the best time to find these caches is after 5 pm (M-F) or on weekends. To help in finding a good parking place during weekday searches, I have provided coordinates to a convenient parking spot for a small hourly fee, and this series should take less than an hour to complete.
