Geocache Description:

A Delightful Excursion with an easy path along the Etowah River. Suitable for family adventures. The round trip distance is about three miles.

The Etowah Cache

This is the reincarnation of the first cache that Jimmus and SpikesMom put out. The first location was vandlized repleatedly, so we have moved the location. You will not have to leave a trail until you are within a few feet of the cache. No bushwacking required.

Start at the Etowah Trail sign post in

Boling Park, Canton GA. No sign is posted at this time. The entrance to the park is at the river bridge.

In Canton, go to the bridge over the Etowah River, which has GA Hwys 5 and 140 crossing it. If driving north, at the north end of the bridge turn left into Boling Park. If you were to turn right, you would Sparkle!

Drive about 0.7 miles to the area of the walking track. Depending on the time of year, you may see many soccer games in progress as you drive by the fields. Our future World Cup champions are growing up and learning the sport.

Park near the picnic shelter and look for the wooden sign which shows the Etowah Trail, a white blazed trail that will go down along the River.

Coordinates:

N 34 14.206

W 084 30.282

You will walk the white blazed trail through oak/hickory forest. In the first section, many of the pines have died from beetle damage.

The trail may be confusing at times, but you will want to cross this bridge which is located at coordinates:

N 34 14.648

W 084 30.201

This bridge, the trail, and many features you see were constructed by BSA Troop 241.

.

You'll pass a rock outcropping which has some names chiseled into the stone. Dates associated with the names are in the 1800's

Along the way you'll see many beautiful oak, hickory, and beech trees. One prominent small tree that you will see is shown in this photograph:

This is the Cucumber Tree which is a species of deciduous magnolia.

Along the trail, you will come to this beautiful stream with small waterfalls.

Should you wish to continue, You'll find the trail ends at New Hightower Baptist Church about a mile farther on.

We hope that you have enjoyed exploring the area for this cache. Best wishes for your future geocaching activities.
