La prima notizia sul castello risale al 1239. Dell’originario impianto rimangono la cinta muraria e le tre torri rompitratta. In particolare, si possono notare i resti dell’ingresso munito di porta carraia centrale, di postierla pedonale sulla sua destra, di merli (guelfi) provvisti di feritoie verticali.
E’ la frazione più abitata del Comune di Agugliano, ma ha una sua storia importantissima da riscoprire, completare, fissare. La comunità preesiste a quella dello stesso paese di Agugliano, ha tesori d’arte da mettere in mostra e continuare a studiare: dalla struttura visibile del Castello di natura quattrocentesca che non riesce a coprire strutture di fortificazioni di età precedente, al Convento dell’undicesimo secolo. Inoltre, la Chiesa di S. Maria delle Grazie, di cui non si hanno notizie certe circa la sua costruzione, ma che sicuramente esisteva nel ‘400, ornata da elementi architettonici addirittura di epoca precedente.
La comunità casteldemiliese ha poi dato i natali a personaggi di spessore che hanno avuto un ruolo riconosciuto in importanti momenti storici della nazione, quali il periodo “garibaldino” e quello successivo delle guerre coloniali. La sua struttura sociale, da sempre ricca e attiva, ha dato vita a forme di aggregazione – quali le Confraternite – di carattere religioso e a una Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso che ancor oggi è operativa ed è elemento storico di aggregazione e riferimento.
E proprio la Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso propone ogni anno una interessante attrazione, sentita da tutto il paese di Castel d’Emilio. Si tratta della “Festa della Crescia” una festa medioevale, dedicata al valore sociale del forno comunale a legna dove, tra musica e balli, la specialità da gustare è (appunto) la Crescia!
