Geocache Description:

Gnammas On A Hill

Welcome to Mount Wudinna

These shallow, pan-shaped pits are known as gnammas (an Aboriginal word meaning rock hole). They are formed from small depressions and crevices, which are enlarged by water collecting in them, causing the granite to weather and crumble.

Much larger gnammas can be seen on Pildappa and Yarwondutta Rocks near Minnipa.

These gnammas can be seen when you reach the top of Mt Wudinna, particularly around the trig point and cairn.

Rather than put reams of information on here in relation to Mt Wudinna, you need to get out there and go exploring and learning.

Starting at the carpark, follow the signs to the Trig Point at the top of Mt Wudinna, stopping along the way to read the information boards. The locals have really embraced this huge granite dome by installing a lot of information boards, BBQs, toilets, and even free camp areas. There is also undercover picnic tables to use.

The walk will take about 30-45 minutes, in a loop, if you rush, but please take longer and take in all around you, including the scenery, and the feeling of being on an ancient land.

Since we were not towing a van, we can't vouch for how easy it would be to manoeuvre a large van around the turn around.

To log this cache...
You will need to visit the information boards and cairn to collect a little information from some of them.
Then email your answers to the CO for verification. You may log your find prior to email confirmation being received, however if your answers are incorrect or are suggestive that you weren't really here, then your log will be quietly deleted.
