Scotch Pond was originally a slough, and was dredged in the early 1950s to provide fishing boats and sailor’s safe moorage and a connection to the Strait of Georgia. Look for the remains of wooden boardwalk pilings built in 1899 as part of the Scottish Canadian Cannery. The Pond is located in the tidal flats of Sturgeon Bank, which provides habitat for shorebirds, migratory waterfowl and salmon.
