Geocache Description:

Tib Lock was once a very busy junction between the Rochdale Canal and Bridgewater Basin, and the site of the famous Havelock Mills. This geocache is part of the Tales from the Towpath story treasure hunt. More information http://talesfromthetowpath.net/connectThere is no pen in the cache, so please bring your own

Tib Lock is the site of Havelock Mills, which was a landmark on the Rochdale Canal and one of the "Rochdale Nine". The nine mills were built between 1820 and 1840 and were probably the largest surviving silk mills in the north-west region in the 1970s, as a unique combination of silk and cotton mills on one site. Tib Lock No 89 is located on the Rochdale Canal between Castlefield Junction and Ducie Street Junction.

In 1823 Tib Lock was a very busy junction between the Rochdale Canal and Bridgewater Basin, so at first nobody noticed the stowaway with her strange feet and her hair of rope and cotton.
