The Wetlands
Even though there are any other areas in this park where there is some wetlands, this area is the nicest. We live on the "crust" of the earth. Sitting on top of the crust is the limestone and sandstone layers that were deposited by the ancient seas. This is the part of the Earth's crust that we live on. Even though the sandstone is compressed and somewhat hard, it is still porous. It is the influx of groundwater that has to be greater than what is lost due to porosity which keeps this area wet. Next we add a bowl like depression, which was scooped out by the glacier, to hold the groundwater as it slowly seeps through the many layers of vegetation and sandstone.
