This cache can be accessed from one of two trailheads or makes for a great through hike if you have a shuttle vehicle. You can start at the Boundary Springs TH for a one way hike of about 5 miles or the Hamaker Meadows TH for a one way hike of about 4.5 miles. We did a through hike starting at Boundary Springs, ate lunch at Rough Rider Falls and finished at Hamaker Meadows. At present the trail isn't horse friendly due to several large logs that would present problems.
The hike from Boundary Springs runs high above the river and has great views of the soaring ash-walled canyon. A bit before Rough Rider Falls the trail travels along the gorgeous river strewn with multiple moss covered logs. At Rough Rider Falls the water explodes through a gap in a splash of silver. The falls is a fabulous place for lunch but watch your pets or kids as the lunch spot is at the very top of the falls.
The cache may have snow in the winter and in early summer the mosquitos can be brutal. Fall is a fabulous time for this hike! The coords were a bit bouncy so you may want to use the hint!
