Geocache Description:

Wanted to hide my first Geocashe somewhere I knew people would enjoy trying to find. Being from this wonderful town, there was no question on where to place it. Late summer/ early fall (now) is my favorite time to come out here. Watching the sunset from here is breath taking. It is my favorite spot in all of Grand Haven.

The Port of Grand Haven had it's first lighthouse in 1839. It consisted of a five room cottage for the keeper with a separate light tower. Within a few years however, the error of its location became apparent and a seawall was built to protect the light tower. Unfortunately erosion continued and in 1852 a storm took out the seawall causing the light tower and cottage to collapse. When the South Pier rebuild was completed to its present length in 1893, it was equipped with a pier head light. In 1907, the South Pier tower and light were moved 600 feet back from the end of the pier to its present location. The South Pier, lighthouse and tower have been a staple in Grand Haven for nearly 175 years. Many frequent this area year round. Difficulty is a 2.5 because this is a popular area. PLEASE use stealth when looking for this one.
