Pittsfield Township was originally part of the Connecticut Western Reserve. The area saw its first settlers around 1813, but the township government was not organized until 1832. On April 11, 1965, one of the F4 tornadoes on Palm Sunday passed through this part of Pittsfield, with the loss of many lives and the destruction of nearly every building. The war memorial statue you see behind you was also toppled and had to be righted and repaired.
