Eponymous Heart
Union Township (then Connecticut Farms) incorporated November 1808 from portions of Elizabeth and is one of the 3 oldest British settlements in Northeastern New Jersey. It became part of the newly formed Union County on March 19, 1857. Many accounts indicate that the growing separatist sentiment in the southern portion of the United States was the reason for this nation-preserving title.
