Geocache Description:

This is a series of caches within the Chatterley Whitfield Heritage Park and the Whitfield Valley Nature Reserve. There is a car park at Ford Green Hall at the southern end of the nature reserve and there are some housing estates surrounding the parks and parking can normally be found.

Thanks to The Countryside Team at Stoke On Trent Council for granting permission to hide this cache.

Description.

I enjoyed the original series of Battlestar Galactica but was very happy when the ‘reimagined’  series was aired, a worthy update to 70’s version.

Cache Type.

Chatterley Whitfield Colliery is off the A527 Biddulph Road, between Tunstall and Brindley Ford, near Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. The site was first used as a coal merchant’s yard from approximately 1750 onwards. It then operated as a colliery around 1850 until it closed in 1976, although underground mining continued from the nearby Wolstanton Colliery until 1986. In its heyday six shafts existed on the site, Hesketh, Platt, Institute, Middle, Engine and Winstanley. The Engine and Middle Pits have since been filled but the other four, complete with their winding gear remain. In 1937 it became the first colliery in Britain to mine one million saleable tons of coal in one year, a feat repeated in 1938. Chatterley Whitfield Heritage Country Park opened after three years of work to transform 50 hectares of the former colliery spoil heap. Around one-third of the spoil heap was removed and used to landscape the ground. Ford Green Brook that formerly ran through a culvert under the spoil heap was restored into an ecologically friendly open stream. The restored brook and a variety of trees and wildflower plants complement other areas helping to bring wildlife to the park.

The surface of the bicycle track from Sneyd Green to the A527 Chatterley Whitfield cycle / foot bridge is suitable for pushchairs, strollers, bicycles and wheelchairs. Caches have been located on the cycle track or within a few steps of it

This is a bison tube, you should find inside a log. Please ensure that you put the cache back into exactly the same place that you found it after logging your find. , This will make maintenance so much easier. Thank you.
