Geocache Description:

My youngest, Riekert (8 years), wanted to place a cache today while we were out geocaching. He insisted to place a cache here where you can see the "animals". He found an empty pill holder in the car's cubbyhole as well as a log sheet, made his own cache and found a hiding place. Unfortunately there was no pencil so please, BYOP.

Dick Heysteck

Situated along the R36 between Lydenburg and Ohrigstad in Mpumalanga province have giant animal sculpture of life-size big game, grazing together in apparent harmony situated just 10km from Lydenburg town.

The wild animal statues were created by the artist, Dick Heysteck using concrete, chicken wires and steel. He started his first sculpture in the early 1980’s and within a few years he had a herd of animals and some human statues too. Each piece took around 2 months to complete.

On display are the big 5, over 25 species of animals and human shapes as part of the game farm artistic sculptures. These have formed part of Dick Heysteck's great arts and history and after he passed away, some of the sculptures were taken to the Lydenburg museum. For more information and insight, the visitors can contact the museum, but some can be seen next to the road near the cache.

The road can be busy and care should be taken especially with children.
