Voici comment c’est formé le mont Covey Hill .
Il y a environ 500 millions d’années, l’océan Iapetus commence à se refermer. La compression latérale des
sédiments marins et de la croûte océanique soulève les roches du fond marin qui deviendront la chaîne
des Appalaches. La région de la rivière Châteauguay étant située à proximité de la collision continentale,
les roches sédimentaires (à l’origine déposées en strates horizontales) ont été faiblement plissées, faillées
et inclinées. Dans la région, ces contraintes ont atteint leur maximum il y a environ 460 millions d’années.
C’était aussi la naissance du mont Covey Hill.

There are about 500 million years ago, the Iapetus Ocean began to close. The lateral compression of
marine sediments and oceanic crust raises the rocks of the seabed that will become the chain
Appalachian . The region of the Châteauguay River is located near the continental collision ,
sedimentary rocks (originally deposited in horizontal layers ) were weakly folded , faulted
and inclined . In the region, these constraints peaked there about 460 million years.
It was also the birth of Covey Hill
