Geocache Description:

Soperton, GA is a quaint little town that deserved some cache-love, so here it is!
You are searching for a micro located in a small downtown Veterans Park. Please BYOP and enjoy.

The original land of Soperton, Georgia was property of the State of Georgia. In June of 1902, Governor Herschel Johnson deeded the land to a local citizen group to begin the town of Soperton. It was founded as a station of the Macon, Dublin, and Savannah Railroad. The Georgia Legislature granted a Town Charter to Soperton on December 12, 1902 and was named after Mr. Benjamin Franklin Soper (1856-1907), the founder of the Southern Railway Mine and Milling Company who was instrumental in the construction of the railroad.

Soperton was located in Montogmery County until August 1917 when the State Legislature passed a constitutional amendment creating the County of Treutlen. This new county was created from a part of Emanuel and Montgomery counties which was approved in November 1918. The county began operations on January 1, 1919 with Soperton as the County Seat.
