This small cache is located near the entrance to the US 601 Bridge access area on the Wateree River, on the Lugoff side. This SCDNR sponsored lake access point is very popular with boaters, and presents excellent views of the river.
The listed coordinates will take you to a history marker where you will gather some information. The hide is a short distance from here, so pull off the road and watch carefully for traffic as you make your way.
For this mystery cache you will gather some information, calculate a bearing and distance, find a virtual stage nearby, and project a waypoint to the final location.
Step 1: Read the history marker and answer the following questions:
1. How many wagons of food and supplies were captured? Assign the value to AB.
2. What month did the first regimental-sized parachute drop occur near here? Assign the month number to C.
Step 2: Calculate the bearing and distance:
1. Assign the value of AB + C to BEAR.
2. Assign the value of (BEAR X 6) + 10 to DIST.
Step 3: Find Stage 2:
Standing at the listed coordinates, slowly turn and locate the numeral 6 (black on yellow, and sometimes blue, background), somewhere within view. When you locate it, proceed to the closest proximity of the numeral 6 location, this is Stage 2.
Step 4: Project a waypoint to the Final Stage:
From Stage 2, project a waypoint of BEAR degrees, for a distance of DIST feet, to the Final Stage.
If you are not able to project a waypoint on your geo-device, a compass and stepping off the distance should get you there, just as well.
The container is a small plastic jar, with a pen and a few small trade items. The terrain is uneven and may be wet after a heavy rain. Watch carefully for fire ants in the open grass areas of this landing, as this area is heavily infested.
The road noise over the bridge is enough that you might not notice the traffic along the landing road. Watch carefully for vehicles when crossing the gravel road.
