Rautatiesillan historiaa

Rautsalon teollisuusraide avattiin alun perin vuonna 1932 Maitiaislahden satamaratana. Rataa jatkettiin Maitiaislahden yli vuonna 1961 Oy Tampella Ab:n perustaessa Heinolan flutingtehtaan Rautsaloon. Nykyään tehtaan omistaa Stora Enso, joka on tällä hetkellä radan ainoa käyttäjä.

1990-luvun alussa Maitiaislahden ylittävä vanha silta korvattiin ahtaan kuormaulottuman vuoksi Kuopion Suosaaresta tuodulla sillalla, joka oli ennen toiminut yhtenä osana alkuperäistä Kallansiltaa. Teräsprofiileista kokoon niitattu ristikkopalkkisilta on todennäköisesti valmistettu Saksassa 1930-luvulla. Entisen Kallansillan muut osat lepäilevät edelleen Kuopion Suosaaressa ja tarjoavat astetta haastavamman kätköilykokemuksen

Recycled Bridge

The Rautsalo industrial railway track was build in 1932 as a harbour rail to Maitiaislahti bay. The track was extended over the bay in 1961, when company called Tampella constructed a Fluting Mill on the other side. Today a global forest company Stora Enso owns the Mill and is the only user of the track.

In the early 1990s the old bridge of Maitiaislahti was replaced by a bigger truss bridge from Kallavesi, Kuopio. This recycled bridge used to be one part of the original Kallavesi bridges. As a steel truss bridge, it’s likely to be manufactured in Germany in the 1930s. The other elements of the former Kallavesi bridges are lying, surrounded by a forest, in Suosaari, Kuopio. It’s a place that offers a challenging geocaching experience.
