'Legging it' - Islington Tunnel Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

smudge42: Sadly I am not in a position to replace this cache as I no longer work in the area. I am very pleased it has lasted as long as it has, and it certainly brings me good memories of walks in this area.
Best regards.

Geocache Description:

A simple cache with a view through Islington Tunnel on the Regent's Canal.

If you lean out a little from the towpath under the bridge at Danbury Street, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel that passes underneath Angel. This is quite impressive when you consider the tunnel is over half a mile long!

The term 'legging it' is derived from the days when the only way of transporting canal boats through tunnels was to lie on a board and use leg-power to move along. The horses would have been led overland to meet the boat at the other end.

If you follow the trail to the other end of the tunnel you'll find yourself close to Venture Into The Darkness.

The cache is a magnetic keysafe mounted on the side of the towpath away from the water. As with all London caches, there are always plenty of muggles around, so stealth required. Please replace hidden from view behind the bracket.

The towpath is easily accessible to both buggys and wheelchairs, however a wheelchair user may require help to retrieve the container.
