Dudley cottage was built in 1882. Dr Bernard Joseph Dudley was the first Medical Officer of Health in the Hutt, and he used the building as a surgery and residence. What makes him remarkable, however, was that he gifted not only the land on which his home stood, but also a very considerable amount of land around it, for the benefit of the youth of the city. Conservatively, you could place the value of the total estate at well over $1.0m.
The street was named after Dr. Bernard Dudley & the small carpark next to the cache is where Dudley Cottage was, but there is now a big building in its place.
28 Dudley Street, Lower Hutt Originally was entered in the List as a Category 2 historic place (#7186).
The building was moved to Hutt Park in 2003 as a temporary option . Dudley Cottage Trust – was established in April 2004 to restore, protect, preserve and promote Dudley Cottage as a heritage building of historical interest for the residents of and visitors to the City. However it was plagued by vandals. The cottage was left to languish, and in 2008 it was set alight by an arsonist. At the time of the blaze the council was waiting for a report from the Historic Places Trust to work out if it was worth saving. It would have cost around $500,000 to refurbish the building.

The Cache:
The cache is another annoying nano and you will need tweezers to retreive the log. Please replace it exactly back to where it was so it does not get muggled
