"The Rec" Geocaching Trail #3 Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

salts&marbles: We placed this series of caches eight years ago and it has been a great run for it, most of the caches being found over 230 times each; however, in recent months, some of these have been repeatedly stolen, damaged, and/or have had their logs stolen.

Therefore, we are Archiving Rec #1 through Rec #6 now. There is a Traveling Geocoin in the Rec Bonus (GC5DZ1W). We will leave that cache Active, until someone takes the Geocoin and then Archive it.

There is no longer any need to find codes for this cache. It coordinates are:

N 43 11.195 and W 073 02.913

Geocache Description:

We have created a six cache trail walk, called the “ ‘The Rec’ Geocaching Trail”. The trail is a series of six individual caches, followed by “The Rec” Bonus Travel Bug Hotel Puzzle cache (GC5DZ1W), all of which we hope will provide you with challenge and fun.

Welcome to the Dana L Thompson Memorial Park, also known as the Manchester Rec Park, or just “The Rec”. The Rec is open until 10:00PM every evening. So please no caching after that time. There is plenty of parking available.

The six cache “The Rec Geocaching Trail” is about a one and a half-mile walk. It will take you most of the way around the Rec’s Measured Mile track and along a few trails that branch off of it. There is NO bushwhacking required to get to any of these caches. The caches are hidden a VERY short distance off of the trails. Therefore, please stay on the trails, until you are almost at (Ground Zero) (GZ).

These caches are rated as easy caches – both Difficulty and Terrain. So the caches are both kid-friendly and family-friendly.

Each cache will earn you a Smiley of its own; however, there is a clue hidden in each cache to help you find “The Rec” Bonus Travel Bug Hotel Puzzle cache. You DO NOT have to find all six caches to be able to find the Bonus Puzzle cache. For the first six caches, you are looking for small camouflaged containers.

About “The Rec” Bonus Travel Bug Hotel Puzzle cache: The coordinates posted in the cache listing for the cache ARE NOT the correct coordinates. You will need to do the following:

At the top of the first page of the log for “The Rec Geocaching Trail” cache numbers 1, 3, and 5 there is a clue written as: ABC=XXX. XXX are the last three numbers in the North coordinates of this cache. If you find ANY of these three caches, you have what you need for the correct North coordinates. The North coordinates are: N 43° 11.XXX'

Similarly, at the top of the first page of the log for “The Rec Geocaching Trail” cache numbers 2, 4, and 6, you will find a similar clue: DEF=YYY, where YYY are the last three numbers in the West coordinates of this cache. If you find ANY of these three caches, you have what you need for the correct West coordinates. The West coordinates are: W 073° 02.YYY'

You will need both XXX and YYY in order to be able to locate this cache. Please record these as you go. The container for this cache is a large camoed peanut jar. It has been seeded with three Travel Bug residents. You can “Discover” any of the Travel Bugs that you find in the Hotel. But please, if you take one, be sure to log it on geocaching.com, so everyone will continue to know its location. Also, it would be great if you could deposit any Travel Bugs that you might want to, so that they can “communicate” with their fellow residents while they are residing there.

Please be sure to put the caches back, exactly where you found them. The caches have been placed with the permission of the Manchester Recreation Department. There are no writing implements in the caches, so please BYOP.

Note: There is a multi-cache and two regular caches in “The Rec” as well. Please be sure to visit them, while you are here. Their ids are: GC1HYZH, GC4PKQ5, and GC4PKQA.
