From here, you can see the ruins of the poppet head and battery from the gold mining days of Raglan and the Fiery Creek Diggings.
Gold was discovered in the area in 1854, and for a short period, this was the most important goldfield in Victoria. The Sons of Freedom mine was the main mining company operating here. The old house to the west was the Mine Manager's house.
This mine was very productive, until the water table was reached and the mine was flooded out. It is believed that there is still much gold remaining deep below.
