#35 Our Emerald Isle:Flynn Creek-Surname Flynn Creek joins the Oconomowoc River several miles south of here, as the crow flies. Looking at Section 24 on several of the older plat maps, T.& M. Flynn owned this 160 acre farm in 1859, are shown there on the 1873 map, and John Flynn has the 160 acre Flynn Homestead in 1892. Flynn is an Irish surname and is an anglicized form of the Irish Gaelic O'Floinn. This surname rose independently in several areas of Ireland. Flynn families originating in Cork and Roscommon counties were most historically important. The Flynn surname is throughout Ireland, but more concentrated in their original Irish homeland. In the past it was O'Flynn; it is now almost always recorded as Flynn.
