Geocache Description:

This is a beautiful spot that over looks the ocean towards the Isle of Mull. There are amazing features around here and it is well worth a visit. As you are in the area please go on a little further to the lighthouse and/or Sanna Bay to find other geologically interesting and amazing places.

This is a multi cache. To find this cache you need to work out the following sums using the information board at the published coordinates to find the location of the actual container.

A= Take the year the giant conifer, the Dawn Redwood, was discovered in China after it was thought to have been extinct and multiply it by the depth in kilometres that East Greenland was covered in basalt. Now times that answer by the number of other volcanoes that were active in Western Scotland. Now add the number of million years ago North America, Europe and Africa were part of a single supercontinent. Now take away the number of kilometres south of the notice board that a volcano erupted sixty million years. Lastly take away the number of centimetres in one year that America and Europe are still moving apart.

B= Take the number of years ago Most of Mull, including Ardmore Point, was formed, minus the number of other volcanoes that were also active at that time and then add the number of centimetres the Atlantic Ocean is widening nowadays.

C= East Greenland was only this number kilometres away from the notice board when it was covered in basalt sixty million years ago. Now from that take away the number of years it takes North America and Europe to move apart one centimetre today. Then take away the number of miilion years ago the Mull volcano flowed over the schist land surface.
