Splinter was the pet rat of a ninja named Hamato Yoshi in Japan. Intelligent for his species, Splinter was able to learn his master's art by mimicking his movements while he practiced. Yoshi became embroiled in a dispute with a fellow ninja by the name of Oroku Nagi, and was eventually murdered by Nagi's brother Oroku Saki.
Without a home, Splinter was forced to run away and live in New York City's sewers. Due to a traffic accident, four baby turtles and a canister of radioactive ooze were sent down into the sewer, where they mutated both Splinter and the turtles. Splinter named the four turtles Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo (after a book on Renaissance artists that he found in a storm drain) and trained them in the arts of ninjutsu, while still raising them as his own sons.
The waypoint I have on here, is a little far of a walk from where the cache is but I really like the panther hollow trail so it is an enjoyable walk. I learned of the area from my groundwater geology class at Pitt but now love to walk here with my dog. There may be access to the trail closer to the cache but I usually park by Phipps Conservatory and walk down the steps. The cache is located off of the lowest trail in the area. If you are walking east then the cache will be on your right side of the trail. You don't need to go near the water source at all.
The cache is one of my favorite that I hid so please be careful opening it. Also make sure you replace it exactly as you found it. Please log your "Did Not Find" if applicable too. I hope you enjoy finding this as much as I enjoyed hiding it! Good luck!
