The Stanley Glacier:
Stanley glacier is situated in the Vermillion Pass area, home to two gigantic forest fires from recent history. The first fire occurred in the late 1960s, the second in 2003. The 1968 forest fire devastated 2,950 hectares (7,290 acres) over an 18 day period. The fire in 2003 burnt a swath through the park several kilometers wide. In each case, large tracts of this valley were reduced to charred ground. The trail to Stanley Glacier will take you straight through the regrowth of the 1960s fire, and the blackened trees of the most recent fire. You will be treated to views of Stanley Glacier creeping down the side of Mt. Stanley towards the valley bottom.
Park your car in the Stanley Glacier parking lot and follow a marked trail to the end of the Stanley Glacier trail. Be sure to bring plenty of water, food and bear spray.
