A well traveled path to the top of Cowles Mountain. 1.5 miles from the parking area.
You can find the first cache on Cowles Mountain and enjoy quite a view on a clear day. You won’t be alone, as this switchback trail is on of the busiest in all of San Diego. Free parking and restrooms at the bottom. In 1.5 miles you will be at the top of the mountain and a few hundred feet from the cache. Be careful as you climb down to the rocks in search of your prize.
As of Super Bowl Sunday 2003 a new box was added to the site as well as many more goodies. Be careful, as the new location is at the bottom of the rock cliff, and I do not suggest that you send your kids after it. It would be easy to slip and fall off - I almost did. Please be careful!
You can see the ammo box from the top of the rocks, if you hike down to the lower level.
