Clan Riffster: It's too bad I'm not into hiding micros, as I'm pretty sure that's the only size cache which can survive out here. To date, I've had a 30 calibre ammo can, one of those fake plastic ammo boxes, and a Therapak medium canister stolen. I'm done. This place is truly amazing to paddle, as you slip amongst the majestic cypress, so I hope someone will follow in my footsteps and hide a series out here worthy of the scenery.
Survivor Sean and I hit Blackwater Creek today intent on a mission. We were going to recover whatever the thieves left us, so there would be no trace of me ever being there. We found the water level inordinately low, so our paddle started with a bit of trepidation, as there are numerous old fallen trees which bisect the creek. On a good day, you gotta bump and scrape your way through. Thankfully, some kind soul has done a bunch of work along the river, chopping a path, so our journey only required one portage. Momma Nature was kind today, keeping a bunch of clouds hanging out betwixt us and the sun, which meant we didn't have to lather down with sunscreen, and end the day smelling like someone beat us to death with coconuts.
We made it to BONSAI!, and I made the ascent to ground zero, to discover that once again the cache was gone. Sigh... somehow I managed to climb back down and climb in my boat without falling in, and we set off for stage one of Thanx Guys!. This was a preform hidden in a large hollow cypress, and you were supposed to paddle your boat inside to grab it. With the low water, that wasn't happening. I had to exit my boat and wade in, which had me thinking that this was alligator mating season. I found the preform right where I left it, and off we went to the final. I was rather surprised to find the replacement pill bottle was still there. I guess the thieves disdain micros as much as I do. Sean made the climb this time, recovering the offending micro.
We stopped off to chit chat with the folks at Camp La-No-Che, then headed back the way we came, meeting up with an FWC officer at the ramp. After schmoozing with him for a while, we loaded boats and bid adieu to this wonderful waterway.
Thanx to all who hunted these!
