Our third annual festive Wherigo, although it can be played any time of year!
This year we've paid a little tribute to a Christmas song which I'm sure you're familiar with, part of which goes...
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows.
All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games.
Now, the song never explained what those "reindeer games" are, so it's all been shrouded in mystery.
Until now.
Join in with the 2014th annual Reindeer Games. Try your hand at the mince pie bobbing, battle against Trevor the naughty elf in a snowball fight, test your skill at pinning the nose on the Santa, and pit your wits at Santa's pub quiz.
Each game carries a prize in virtual presents, and your task is simply to accumulate enough presents for Rudolph to take his rightful place leading Santa's sleigh, and in so doing find the final cache.
The cartridge has been field tested on a smartphone and GPS, other platforms are of course available. Thanks to Islalou and SwampyMonster for their assistance in beta testing the cartridge for us. (and let it be noted for the record that the version they played was considerably more difficult than the final one!)
When we field tested the cartridge, it took around 2 hours to play out the game, plus another 20 minutes to walk to the cache site. However, that did include time to replay games to beat the high scores. Feel free to play the cartridge over multiple sittings, especially if you have young children in your caching team, as it will involve a lot of walking!
You may wish to drive to the final location, although it's not a park and grab, so you will need to find suitable parking. Please park safely, legally, and considerately.
Some tips as you go along. I can't stress any of the below enough!!
- Save your game at regular intervals, where your chosen hardware allows.
- Pay attention to what's going on on your screen, so you don't miss anything.
- You may wish to bring a calculator and a notepad. Santa's pub quiz can be a little involved! You will definitely need to bring a pen.
The ground was slightly soggy underfoot in places at time of placing. Also, please note that one of the games has a stringent time limit. The D and T ratings reflect that.
