Geocache Description:

Bentonville Battleground 10:00 AM until 11:59 AM

The Battle of Bentonville, fought March 19-21, 1865, was the last full-scale action of the Civil War in which a Confederate army was able to mount a tactical offensive. This major battle, the largest ever fought in North Carolina, was the only significant attempt to defeat the large Union army of Gen. William T. Sherman during its march through the Carolinas in the spring of 1865. - from NC Historic Sites

We will meet at the battleground visitor center to learn from a time traveler about the role NC had in the Civil War and to gain a better understanding of the cost of this hallowed ground.

A trivia event will be held to test the knowledge of those that consider themselves experts and novices in North Carolina's contributions and support during the Civil War and some geocaching facts. Prizes reflecting the time period will be awarded.

150 Geocaches have been hidden to guide your exploration and appreciation of NC as you traverse highways and by-ways across the state and learn her history from those fighting and those keeping the home fires burning during the Civil War, 1861 - 1865.
