Geocache Description:

Wonga Wetlands is a sanctuary for birdwatchers, field naturalists, photographers and bushwalking groups, wandering Wonga Wetlands is a fantastic way to wind down and enjoy nature.


Located West of Albury along the Riverena Highway, the wetlands are an ecosystem of lagoons and billabongs are being restored after many years of farming and grazing.

Wonga is home to an abundance of native flora and fauna, a Wiradjuri campsite, an indigenous scar tree and ancient river red gums.

The wetlands incorporate seven lagoons covering around 80 hectares on the Murray River floodplain, 3km of walking paths and picnic and barbecue facilities.

More than 154 identified bird species frequent Wonga Wetlands.  A full list is available from the information booth adjacent to the car park; how many can you tick off?

The Cache is a small bison tube with a logbook only, concealed in local shrubs. BYO pen. Please remove and re-hide carefully as this is a high Muggle place at certain times, particularly weddings.

Please remember;

  • Be careful and quiet so as not to disturb birds and other wildlife
  • Do not feed the birds
  • Wear suitable footwear at all times, particularly in warmer months
  • Be sun smart
  • Do not bring pets or bicycles onto the wetlands
  • Watch out for snakes.
