Geocache Description:

Dust off your shoulder pads, puffball skirts, parka jackets and neon-coloured linen suits (delete according to gender and preferences ;-) ) and take a trip to the decade that taste forgot! Re-visit a time when a micro was a state-of-the-art computer, the only mystery was "who shot JR?", and a film pot was a camera accessory!

Beachie loves 1980s

Beachie ❤ 1980s is a series of caches themed around the 1980s, located around Peterborough City Centre. The caches are intended to provide a variety of hides and types, so there'll be something for everyone.

Each cache is related to a different 1980s thing pertinent to a different year of the decade. We've tried to tie the themes in to the location where we can. In addition, there are some bonus caches. These aren't bonus caches in the geocaching sense of information to find one cache contained within other caches. They're just extra caches we added as we ended up with more ideas than years in the decade.

All the caches in the series are "stand-alone" in that they don't require you to complete any others. You can do them all in one sitting or just dip in and do one or two at a time as your time permits. You also don't need to do them in chronological or any other particular order - do them in whatever order works for you.

Click on elements of the magazine above to see the caches in the series. Alternatively, go to this bookmark list...

...and a magazine cover story introduced the world to the Brat Pack!

This one

The term “Brat Pack”, a play on words on the original “Rat Pack” of Frank Sinatra and friends, was first used by journalist David Blum in an article and photo story. It refers to a group of precocious young actors emerging at the time.

Typically, the “core” Brat Pack is thought of as one of the leading cast members of The Breakfast Club, and St Elmo’s Fire, two films released this year. These include Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy.

The article and the label stuck for years afterwards, and didn’t do many of the actors concerned many favours, as a lot of them came across as talented but unprofessional. In the years to follow, many suffered from personal problems and scandal-hit careers and arguably never hit the professional heights they could have.

We've brought you to this location as one of the prominent members of the Brat Pack was Judd Nelson. The building at the published co-ords is Nelson House, where he lives in Peterborough (disclaimer: no he doesn't)

It aint what you do, its the way that you do it...

Stand in front of the building and look up.

Above your head you’ll see a number of supports with faces carved into them. How many? Call this A.

Next door (on the right as you look at the building) is a business premise – what number Cowgate is it? Call this BC (ignore any letters at the end of the number)

Between these two buildings there is a sign detailing parking restrictions. No return within D hours.

At your feet inlaid into the pavement is a sign detailing two tourist attractions to your left and right in opposite directions.
How many times does the letter A appear on this sign? Call this E.
How many times does the letter F appear on this sign? Call this, um, F!

The cache can be located at:

N 52° BA.(D+F)(C-E)A W 000° (A-B)(A-F).(B+C)(B-D)(E+B)

Is there something I should know?

The cache is a couple of minute's walk away. Final location is not a park and grab. However, you may find suitable parking near the starting co-ordinates.

Please make an educated decision about the level of muggle activity when you arrive at GZ, and if you find it's just too muggly, we'd suggest you return another time - we'd rather you protected the cache. Thank you.

You got the right stuff?
