A long-forgotten cache, now reborn. Some of you may remember West Hook Mtn. by nyackrocks, though if you're like me, you only know it as an archived cache that was never removed. GCPTBQ archived due to a poor choice of directions to access. Luckily, there are other (more official) ways to go.
Your journey begins on 9W, and has been approved by Jo Anne Pedersen, Superintendant of Recreation & Parks for the Town of Clarkstown, via permit #12. Be sure to follow the listed waypoints for parking and trail access. Here you will meet your friend the white blaze, who acts as a connector to another trail system. Once you have scaled the rock face, you are on your own. A gorgeous vista awaits; be sure to enjoy it while you are here.
As per the original description:
"West Hook Mountain is a beautiful place, but much less famous than Hook Mountain (across 9W). There are spectacular views of Nyack, the Hudson River, and the Tappan Zee Bridge. Signal fires were lit here during the Revolution, to warn of the approach of British ships. Recently, the Town of Clarkstown has protected this ridge as a park. We hope that someday soon, the Long Path will leave its current route along the shoulder of 9W, and return to the top of this beautiful ridge"
