Geocache Description:

Denne cache: X-ing:

Banerne transporterede gods og personer (bl.a. skolebørn).

The tracks going north to Troldhede and north-east to Langå crossed each other at this bridge. To build this huge construction, a lot of building material was dug along the tracks, creating ditches and quite some height difference. The ditch south-east of the track was previously used by Grindstedværket for toxic waste and in 2012 the ditch was sealed and bushes was planted

Experience the history of special places of cultural interest in Billund. “Going North”

Experience the second greatest moor-area in Denmark – the Moorplaines of Grindsted – which has remains from the ice-age, from earlier moor-areas and from a time, when Grindsted was a railway-centre.

The landscape changed dramatically, when the moors were cultivated, and changed into farmland. This again brought dairies, consumer cooperatives, factories, etc. to the area towards the end of the 1800s.

In 1914 the first railway was built to Grindsted and Grindsted became a traffic center on the Moors of Jutland with the 3rd largest railway station in Denmark. This gave a great growth to the area and increase of the population.

The railway transported goods and people (f.ex. school children). The goods were marl, fertilizer, peat, brown coal, timber, grain, potatoes, livestock, farming equipment, dairy and butchery products, medicine, fuel, groceries, mail and likewise.

Today there is no longer any railway traffic, but the remains can still be found and you can experience the area along these paths.
