Geocache Description:

This can be a quick cache n dash inbetween some of the local series or after your visit to the carboot or even a days paintballing.

This is my first attempt at hiding a cache.

The cache is located near a fairly busy road so care should be taken when caching with kids and pets. Near the cache you will find a nice little wooded area which is great for a quick walk beware though, part of this area is used for paintball and airsoft games so pay attention to any warning signs and stay away from out of bounds areas. The cache is also located very close to a Cricket and Rubgy pitch. This is the home of Aston Unity Cricket Club and Spartans Rugby Union FC. The cache itself is a medium sized round click lock container with plenty of room for swaps and Trackables. I have place an unused TB dog tag for the FTF.

Aston Unity CC is a forward thinking club currently playing in the Warwickshire Cricket League  Division 2, the West Midlands 3rd. X1 League, and the Sunday Single Team Cricket League. Founded in 1868, Aston Unity has a proud history going back to the founding of the Birmingham & District Cricket League when Unity won the inaugural competition in 1889. The Club runs three senior sides on Saturday, two senior sides on Sunday and one midweek team on Wednesday evenings. There is also youth provision for boys and girls aged 9 to 15 who benefit from a number of qualified coaches within the club.

Spartans RFC was founded as a rugby club in 1960 by former pupils and a master of Bromsgrove School who lived in the Sutton Coldfield area.

Warwickshire Shield Winners 2013
The Club played it’s first game against Dudley Kingswinford (away) finishing worthy winners by nineteen points to eleven. Keith Hill, one of our founders and a player in that first game, remains a visitor and strong supporter of the Club.

The Club had a “nomadic” early existence until the Coppice Lane ground was bought in the 1970’s, and was officially opened by the Viscount Cobham in June 1972. The clubhouse has been developed over the years from its original wooden structure and offers a warm welcome to you. There are plans to continually upgrade the building, with a pitched roof our latest project.

Warwickshire Cup Finalists 2011
We have recently ensured that the playing and training areas are maintained to a high standard throughout the year, and supported by Alpha Sports (Lichfield) our training equipment remains in excellent order.
When league rugby began in 1987/88 Spartans remained true to their beliefs of playing hard, playing fair and enjoying the friendships made. Life in the early days of Warwickshire leagues saw this approach tested, but we kept to those ideals and in April 2005 we won the Warwickshire Shield, beating Marconi 9 – 3 and securing our first piece of silverware in the 15 a side game.

Midlands 4 West (South) league Winners in 2008
In April 2006 we were Warwickshire First Division Champions. In season 2006 – 07 we won the Warwickshire Shield again, this time beating Pinley 20 - 7. In 2007 – 08 we won our fourth trophy in four seasons as Champions of Midlands Division Four West (South). Season 2008 – 09 saw us playing in Midlands Three West (South) when, contrary to the predictions of many, we competed well and maintained our hard won league status. After another RFU carve up, 2009 - 10 saw us spending our forty - ninth season in Midlands Two West (South) with challenges against senior clubs we once only dreamed of playing.

Warwickshire Shield Winners in 2007
Season 2010 - 11 saw us celebrate our 50th anniversary in fine style, achieving our highest ever league placing and reaching the Warwickshire Cup quarter final, semi final and final for the first time in history; a remarkable achievement for a club which started from such humble beginnings.

An RFU "Level Transfer" meant that in 2011 - 12 we played our rugby in Midlands Two (West) North, renewing friendships with clubs we had not seen for many years, and in some cases had never met before. In what proved to be a difficult season, we were proud to give first team opportunities to several young players who emerged from our juniors, and who acquitted themselves extremely well in a very competitive environment. With many changes, we maintained our coveted league status for a fourth successive season, ensuring a fifth season against quality opponents in 2012 - 13.

Season 2012 – 13 proved to be an encouraging one, with every game proving very competitive and rarely decided by more than a couple of scores either way. A good run of form after Christmas saw us secure fifth place, and our Warwickshire roots bore fruit once more as we won the Warwickshire Shield for the third time in a thrilling floodlit final against Old Coventrians, 29 – 36.
Another RFU "Level Transfer" means that in 2013 - 14 we will play our rugby in Midlands Two (West) South again. We aim to run at least three adult sides every week to cater for all abilities and for all to have a good playing record, supported by quality facilities, quality equipment and quality coaching to meet the new challenges. In short, we look forward to seeing you play in the Spartans black shirt to those original Spartan values.

Warwickshire First Division Champions in 2006
To support our recent progress the Club has a policy of encouraging young players to join our growing junior section and develop our future playing strength. Any new players in the age range of u12 – u17 are very welcome to join us on a Sunday morning as we continue to grow our juniors from smallblacks into allblacks.
