It was October 17, 2013 that an unexpected bushfire changed the lives of hundreds of people in the Winmalee area of the Blue Mountains.
209 homes were destroyed, with many more impacted upon to varying degrees, with damage running in to millions of dollars.
our boys school was in lockdown and with roads closed, it was a terrible, almost five hour drive from Springwood via Penrith and Yarramundi and back to pick them up. They were not alone.
One year on, there are still many areas where houses have not been rebuilt yet or are in the process of being rebuilt. We were lucky not to have been affected, but many of our friends either lost their homes or suffered severe damage to their homes, not to mention the mental trauma this put them through.
Changes natural environment is starting its healing and regrowing, but even this will take a long time.
This simple cache is not near houses- people have had enough of onlookers throughout the process. It shows how the environment is coming to terms with the regrowth. The area will come through it because of the immense sense of community there is in this wonderful area.
Don't wear your Sunday best for this one, there is still a lot of black soot around.
Congratulations to pandsa on First to find.
