Geocache Description:

Saturday Nov 8, 2014: An educational event along with a pot-luck lunch
10 am to 11:30 am, UCDavis campus classroom 146 Environmental Horticulture
11:30 to 2 pm - potluck lunch on the Environmental Horticulture quad (posted coordinates).

This is the November RCGDS event. All geocachers are welcome even if not affiliated with the RCGDS

Q.: What is "geospatial data"? (you ask)

A.: It's the stuff you load into your GPSr so it can help you find geocaches. Or when you plot geocaches on a map so you can visualize where they are. Or so you can do your geocaching statistics to impress your friends. Or to figure out whether you have met some challenge before you can actually log the find. Etc etc etc Complicated stuff but not "rocket science".

If you are one of those who have flagged me down at events to say "hey why don't you do another educational event" - then this one is for you.

Following the educational part will be a pot luck lunch on the lawn of the UCDavis Environmental Horticulture facility. Please also bring picnic blankets. We can pull chairs out of the classroom if needed. There will not be a grill to heat stuff up (sorry). So for the pot-luck lunch, please bring fully prepared food.

This event is completely FREE. Kids are welcome. Friendly dogs are OK but must be on leash under full control. No smoking (UCDavis has officially banned all tobacco smoking, even outdoors.)

We will have this event rain-or-shine since we have enough covered area so that we can do this even it it does manage to rain.

Update: Agenda (based on requests):
- Using OpenStreet maps, in particular, getting them into your computer and into your Garmin GPSr.
- Editing OpenStreet maps
- GSAK: using PQs or API as data source
- Introduction to coding GSAK macros
Update after event: The following link is a pdf of the presentation slides .
