If you want to see beautiful landscapes, incredible slopes, views of a life time, I recommend to visit Piatra Rosie citadel.
Our roundabout trip started pretty early in the morning (around 01:00PM, but who counts!) and from the start we had a companion:
Mugurel!
Mugurel is one of the dogs which lives in Alunu village, in the Luncani area. These dogs are looking almost all the same... (hehe, I wonder why ;))
After we left the pension where we stayed, we took a backroad on the hill slopes, following the advice of one of the local people.
We started the climb at T1 (At the small bridge). Up the trail and remember, until you reach the fence, at each main road split, take the left (there are 2 lefts).
When you reach the fence, nearby you will find the first cache, at the root of a tree (GC5EWPF).
Following up the fence, we've seen the entrance to Piatra Rosie citadel. Inside you will see a piece of Dacian history, well preserved and still untouched.
The cache from inside the fortress (GC5EWQ1) is placed near a rock peak where you can admire the entire valley. Not recommended to the one with weak heart :)
After visiting the fortress, we took the road around the mountain for going back.
On the road, we placed the following caches:
3. At the start of a private road(GC5EXWJ)
4. At the bridge (or, better saying, under the bridge:))(GC5EY4B)
5. At a beautiful spring(GC5EY4G)
6. At the crossroad to Cioclovina Cave (grr, we took a wrong road trying to reach the cave and we went about 5 additional kilometers)(GC5EY4W)
7. At the crossroad to Alunu(GC5EY50)
8. Under a big rock about half way to Alunu(GC5EY53)
9. At our host:)(GC5EY58)
On the entire road, Mugurel followed us... until the crossroad to Alunu ... from there we had to follow it :):)
The trip (not considering the 2h wrong detour) took us about 4h, including lunch break and picture taking along the road.
I really hope you will enjoy also the place!
Visit the area and find out about Mugurel, Bucurel, Miu and Mau (both from hill side and valley side/"de sus" si "de jos").
PS. Be aware, on the hill slopes we noticed several fresh bear signs (claw marks on trees and ground, fresh big bear-shit ;)), so, best for you is to take a companion (like we had Mugurel).
PPS. You will have GSM signal ONLY in the citadel, so it's better to download spoiler pictures before you start walking.
PPPS. Remember: This place it's like a piece of Heaven :) So, no littering!
PPPPS. We took the coordinates using two smart phones without GSM signal (just GPS). So, if you see that the cache coordinates need to be changed, please post the new ones on your log.
