Sweeney Todd is a fictional character in which Todd is a serial killer who obtains his victims in his barber shop. After a customer gets sat down, Todd would slit their throat with a straight razor and pull a lever on the barber chair in which the victim falls backward down a revolving trap door into the basement of his shop. He robs the victims and gives his partner in crime, Mrs. Lovett, the body in which she bakes their flesh into meat pies and sells them at her pie shop.
In New Orleans, post-Katrina, there was a case with a real life modern day Sweeney Todd. It is the story of Zach Bowen and Addie Hall. The two had lived separate lives while living in the same city, but both refused to evacuate for the hurricane and chose to ride it out. Addie offered Zach shelter in her apartment and they fell in love. They were inseparable after Katrina hit and refused to leave the French Quarter in Addie’s apartment. The two fought endlessly but always stayed together. They got evicted and moved into a different apartment in the Quarter, one above a Voodoo Spiritual Temple. The couple had another feud and Annie requested the landlord to throw out Zach and end the relationship. The landlord talked to Zach and suggested they try to work things out. Twelve days later Zach was found dead on top of a hotel roof top with a pool – he had jumped from the parking garage located above the roof pool in the building next door. In his pocket was a suicide note full of guilt and grief. He instructed the police to the apartment he shared with Addie so they could check on her. The police went to the apartment and found Addie chopped up and cooking on the stove, in the oven, and in the fridge.
