Geocache Description:

Uvero Beach is a beautiful sandy beach located in SW Mona Island. It has a historical importance during guano mining operations in the XIX and XX centuries. It is also known to be a sea turtle nesting site.

To reach the cache, one got to do a strenuous walking about 1.5 hours (3.2 mi or 5.2 km), dry forest conditions. Bring appropriate clothing, big hat, sun block, and lot of beverage for extreme heat. Beware of insolation use common sense.

This cache is a small container under the roots of an old sea grape tree (Coccoloba uvifera) next to the first gazebo with two signs (in Spanish). The signs say: (1) "Esta agua podría salvar tu vida consérvala limpia" [This water could save your life keep it clean]; (2) "Prohibido tirar basura D.R.N." [No trash Dept. Natural Resources]. Cache contains a small logbook, a pencil (sorry no sharpener included, use your field knife).  For the FTF there is US $0.27 for Kharon (ferryman of Hades in Greek mythology) and a fossil imprint of a bivalve (from Salto Collazo, San Sebastián Formation in Puerto Rico mainland).  Always watch out for centipedes and hermit crabs "sweet" claws. Enjoy the view and the beach!  Keep in mind that many pirates and privateers walked on this beach in the old times!  Do not underestimate Mona Island, always be prepared!
